Visakhapatnam harbour and the many industries in and arround the city attracted a lot of people from the interior parts of neighbouring districts and even from far away places in search of work. They constructed small houses on vacant lands and hill slopes. Dharmanagar and Kailasapuram areas among such other places had many christian families migrated from other places. People of Dharmanagar approached the Parish Priest of Gnanapuram with a request of giving them Sunday Mass in their area at it was very difficult for them to cross the national high way and the railway lines to reach Gnanapuram Church. With the encouragement of Rev. Fr. Anthony Mookenthottam, then parish priest of Gnanapuram they errected a thatched shed and star ted Sunday Mass from early sixties.
Fr. K V Joseph msfs found so many catholic families in Kailasapuram area and at their request started saying Sunday Mass in a private house in 1981. Soon they occupied some land on the slope of Kailasapuram(hill) and errected a thatched shed to be used as chapel. After Fr. K V Joseph, Fr. Mathew Alapat continued to give them Sunday Mass. A small Church was built in Dhramanagar in 1985. In August 1985 Dharmanagar - Kailasapuram was made a parish and Fr. Joseph E Pauvath was made parish priest. Sunday Mass was offered both in Dharmanagaram and Kailasapuram and constructed a church. Fr. Mathew Muthukattil developed the area and built a Calvary near the Church. A spacious beautiful chruch was built in Saligramapuram in the land offered by the Visakhapatnam Por t Trust by land exchange aggrement. Church was blessed on 25.03.1998
