Originally a chapel built in 1775 and affiliated to the parish of Anjuna, Assagão parish church was erected by the Provision of April 10, 1813. The church was later rebuilt and enlarged with a new cross aisle of two wings and a chancel. It was blessed on November 21, 1897.
