Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Christian denomination in south India, which was established in 1919 and has approximately 200,000 members. Its headquarters is in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.
Rev. Eduard Raimund Baierlein’s initiative made the Pavanasar Lutheran Church existence in Bangalore during 1873 also he is the first Pastor. He is a native of Poland. Before he became the serving Pastor of the Bangalore Pastorate has served in Tranquebar, Cuddalore and Sadaras of Tamil Nadu. He conducted the first divine service on 5th January 1873. Till 1886 he served the Bangalore pastorate and left for the native land due to ill health. On 12th October 1901 at the age of 82 he slept in the Lord.
With his everlasting desire and related initiative encouraged him to build a small chapel and the same was dedicated to the glory of the Almighty on 23rd August 1874 by Rev. J.M.N.Schwartz. During 1951, through the then serving Pastor Rev. A.J.Sathyanathan . Rev. A.J.Sathyanathan, who rose to adorn the highest office of Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church, by becoming the Bishop of Tranquebar during1972-75, Also he dedicated the new spacious church building to the glory of the Redeemer on 20th April 1974.
