Chembur Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church, Chembur, Better Known As The Parumala Of Bombay Diocese Of The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Had A Very Humble Beginning. Initially, Only a Small Group of Orthodox Syrian Christians Were Residing in Chembur Area, Who Were The Members Of St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, Dadar -The Mother Church For All Orthodox Churches In Mumbai. The Need For An Independent Church For The Benefit Of The Malankara Orthodox Christians Residing In The Eastern Suburbs Of Erstwhile Bombay Was Felt By These Members And They Approached The Managing Committee Of Dadar Church With The Proposal Of A Separate Church In Chembur. As Early As 1970 Expectedly, As Is Usual, There Were Lot Of Misunderstandings And Discord In The Initial Stages And The Matter Kept On Dragging For Quite Some Time. Neverthless, By The Providence Of God Almighty And With The Unstinted Support And A Firm Decision On The Part Of H.G Dr. Mathews Mar Athanasios, The Then Metropolitan Of Outside Kerala Diocese, Better Sense Prevailed And The Chembur People Managed To Get The Permission And Support From The Dadar Parish In Their Efforts. A Local Committee Was Formed Under The Presidentship Of Rev. Fr. C.V. John, The Then Vicar Of Dadar Church. This Committee Was On The Look Out For A Suitable Plot In Chembur. Negotiations For Several Plots Were Carried Out And Finally The Present Plot Where The Church Is Located Was Identified As The Best Suited Plot For Our Church, With The Guidance Of A Gentleman By The Name Of Mr. C. V. Thampi Who Was A Real Estate Developer. With Some Financial Support Received From Dadar Church And Also Good Will Donations From Well Wishers From Different Parts Of The World,
