Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka

Oman is strategically an important country in the Gulf region. With the newly found wealth of oil in the 1960’s and with the beginning of a new region in 1970 under the enlightened and dynamic le1adership of the present ruler H.M. Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the dawn of modern Oman began.

Prior to 1970, only the Anglican service was conducted at the sole Church in Muscat which was run by the American Mission

Mar Gregorios Maha Edavaka, Muscat is completed its 45th year of existence in the soil of the Sultanate of Oman. We thank God Almighty for the immeasurable mercy and grace that the parish received during these long periods. From a small congregation in 1972, we have now grown into the largest community of Christians in the Sultanate of Omann. Members from different regions like Nizwa, Ibra, Sur, Ibri, Rustaq, Bureimi etc all joined this Church for worship. Formation and establishment of two independent churches at Sohar and Ghala is another sign of our growth. Muscat parish providing all care and support with a parental love.

Along with the spiritual needs of the members, we are extending our help and support in the socio-political and economic fields. Our church has contributed substantially to philanthropic activities, health care, social problems, quality education and many other sectors for a large number of people in Oman and India through its various projects and programmes.

Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Maha Edavaka is the only church in outside Kerala region of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church with the presence of the Holy Relics of two declared Holy saints. Now we are blessed with the presence and protection of these Saints of Mar Gregorios of Parumala and Vattasseril Mar Dionysios. The supreme head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church His Holiness Moron Mar Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II along with the Diocesan Metropolitan of this Parish HG Dr. Geevarghese Mar Yulios erected the Holy Relics of Sabha Bhasuran Vattasseril Gheevarghese Mar Dionysios on 4th March 2016 at our Maha Edavaka. The Holy Relics of Parumala Thirumeni also relocated into the newly constructed shrines.
