Rev. Dr. Sabu Varghese was born and raised in a traditional Pentecostal house in a small village called Arabi in Kannur, Kerala. His parents, Ps. K V Varghese and Mrs. Leelamma Varghese, who are in full time ministry, were very keen in training and nurturing their three children in the fear of the Lord. Both his brother and sister along with their families are in full time ministry.
A systematic Christian Education through Sunday school and exposure to involvement in ministry through the youth activities, played a key role in his spiritual growth. He accepted Christ Jesus as his personal Savior and Lord at the age of twelve and took water baptism two years later. Upon completion of high school, he went to Karnataka to pursue his secular as well as theological education. In his final year of Bachelor’s education, he sensed a definite call of the Lord and committed his life to full time ministry. He worked as an Associate Staff worker and as a College Lecturer simultaneously for over a year and continued his theological education at Bethel Bible College, Punalur. Spirit baptism and the systematic theological training gave him a unique vision for the ministry. After Graduating, he went back to Malabar and served as an Associate/Youth minister at Central Assembly of God Church. During the occasional absence of the Lead Pastor, assumed the full responsibility of the church with a membership of over 200, for both short and long term.
He got married in the year 1999 and came to USA in July 2000. Shortly after arriving US , he joined Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and obtained his Doctorate in Ministry (2001-2009). During this time, God also helped him to travel to different places both nationally and internationally as a Preacher and missionary Evangelist. In response to a definite lead to pioneer a church, started Philadelphia House of Worship, a multi-ethnic Pentecostal church for the community along with a Pastor friend of his in Philadelphia, PA.
He assumed the responsibility as Senior Pastor of Grace Pentecostal Church, Philadelphia, in the year of 2009 and have been serving in the same capacity till June , 2017. During this tenure, God in His rich mercy and favor, allowed the church to grow both spiritually and in numbers, from 44 families to a membership strength of 77+ families. It has always been his passion to see the church growing with new souls. In the past, several people and families from various denominations have come to the Lord and have become part of the church. The Lord also helped him to strengthen the Youth, Christian Education and Young Couples ministry of the church and now they play an integral part in the ministry. He organized several mission trips to various countries. Involved in City wide ministry as well.
